Inspired by spiritual beliefs and ancient icons, Chris Macfarlane is an Artist who opens the secrets of the Occult for the world to see.
Chris is a Berkshire based self-taught pyrography artist whose work is usually steeped in mysteries of olde. His conceptual mind is heavily influenced by archaic religion, alchemy, spirituality and magick. Often embracing the mysterious and macabre, his pieces are each created by hand to tell a story that speaks to your soul.
Wood tells its own story when you delve into tree lore and Chris endeavours to celebrate this with the images burned into it. Be it Celtic, Norse, Oriental or further, wood is his medium, secrets are his muse.

Duality
A portrait exploring the balance between sacred and wild, divine and primal. Burned into ash wood and finished with gold, silver and copper leaf, this piece reflects the eternal tension and harmony between two sides of the self.

Anubis
Anubis emerges as both guardian and guide, standing at the threshold between worlds. His lesser known, softer jackal face is ever watchful, recalling ancient silence of desert tombs and the unseen pathways of the soul.
Behind him, layers of hieroglyphs whisper forgotten prayers and rituals, echoing the voices of civilization that sought harmony between life, death and eternity.
Kiri-sute gomen
Kiri-sute gomen (斬捨御免 or 切捨御免) is an old Japanese expression dating back to the feudal era right to strike (right of samurai to kill commoners for perceived affronts). Samurai had the right to strike with their sword at anyone of a lower class who compromised their honour. Because the right was defined as a part of self defence, kiri-sute gomen had a set of tight rules. The strike had to follow immediately after the offence, meaning that the striker could not attack someone for a past grievance or after a substantial amount of time. Also, due to the right being self-defence, it was not permissible to deliver a further ‘coup de grâce’ if a blow had been successfully applied.
